Flowers for a Tea occasion
Season: October
By Grand Master Fuden-an Sojitsu
Flower: Eupatorium japonicum, Chinese carnation, and Rhododendron.
Vase: Iga pottery with handle.
The Rhododendron is the flower most representative of the nostalgia of the past season and the most representative one used in a tea ceremony of this period. The fact that its leaves are brown and show signs of having been eaten by worms are holdovers from the past season. The floral ensemble goes well with this rather sober piece of pottery.
